Michael Ma represents the residents of Markham–Unionville as their Member of Parliament.
Before his election, he built a career in business and technology, holding senior global leadership roles with organizations including TD Bank, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Sun Life Financial, American International Group (AIG), the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), and LifeLabs. His work focused on organizational growth, technology modernization, and operational change within large, complex institutions – experience that continues to shape his perspective on how public policy affects jobs, innovation, and economic opportunity in local communities.
Beyond his professional career, Michael has remained closely involved with community serving institutions. He has served on the boards of Oak Valley Health, the Hong Fook Mental Health Foundation, and the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, gaining exposure to governance and oversight in healthcare, education, and other sectors that play a direct role in people’s everyday lives.
Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver, Michael is the youngest of seven children. He began working at a young age while attending school to help support his family, from delivering newspapers after school to washing food trucks during the winter months and processing strawberries on summer farms. These early experiences shaped a practical understanding of work and responsibility that has stayed with him. Today, as a father and husband, he carries that same perspective into public service, attentive to the everyday realities families navigate in their working and home lives.
As the Member of Parliament for Markham–Unionville and a member of the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology (INDU), Michael is committed to ensuring that the perspectives and priorities of Markham–Unionville continue to be represented at the national level, reflecting the needs of the community he serves.
